Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering we ask that you become a member and attend a volunteer orientation first.
Slack
We use the co-working software Slack as our exclusive means of volunteer communication. It’s highly cross-platform and available for Mac, PC, iOS, Android, and also has a web interface.
If you do not yet have access to our Slack please request the invitation link by emailing info@synthlibraryportland.com and we will send it to you.
Lending Program Facilitation
We are in perpetual need of lending program facilitators to help our members borrow and return gear as well as manage our inventory. You can sign up for lending program shifts on gear pickup and return days here. If you do not see them or have questions about how to use the sheet please reach out via Slack or email us at info@synthlibraryportland.com.
We do library admin tasks via the MyTurn Admin page. If you do not have access to this please request that we update your account privileges by emailing us at info@synthlibraryportland.com.
Assisting with Workshops and Events
You do not need to lead, teach, or even be knowledgeable in the event topic to be of help - there are often tasks like checking folks in, helping set up/break down, answering basic questions about the library, ensuring there’s an extra set of eyes on the equipment for security purposes, etc.
We will use this Volunteer Signup Sheet to allow you to check for and sign up for helping at workshops and events. Depending on which event the form may ask different questions or require different types/quantities of helpers.
Check Slack to learn about new volunteer opportunities and bookmark the signup sheet to come back to it as it will regularly be updated.
Creating New Workshops and Events
If you have a SLP-relevant topic that you have experience with and want to organize a workshop, please start a thread in the “workshops” channel on Slack to discuss your proposal.
If you have an idea for a SLP-relevant fundraiser, community show, or other event that you want to organize, please create a thread for discussion in Slack.
